Maintaining a beautiful lawn isn’t always as straightforward as it seems. There are plenty of myths out there that could steer you in the wrong direction, especially when it comes to caring for your Empire Zoysia turf. Whether you're an experienced lawn lover or new to the turf world, it's important to separate fact from fiction. Here are some common lawn care myths that we’re busting to help you give your lawn the care it truly deserves.

Myth 1: You Need to Water Your Lawn Every Day

Watering your lawn daily is not only unnecessary but can also harm your turf. Overwatering leads to shallow root growth and can encourage disease. Instead, water deeply and less frequently, twice a week is usually enough. This method supports deep root growth and keeps your lawn healthier.

Myth 2: Mowing Your Lawn Shorter Means Less Maintenance

It’s tempting to mow your lawn shorter to cut down on the frequency of mowing, but this can weaken your grass and make it more vulnerable to pests and diseases. Keep your Empire Zoysia at the ideal height of around 3–4 cm. This helps the grass stay strong, promotes deeper roots, and reduces long-term maintenance.

Myth 3: A Brown Lawn Means It’s Dead

A brown lawn doesn’t always mean it’s dead. Grass naturally goes dormant in response to heat, cold, or drought. This is a survival mechanism that conserves energy. As long as the roots remain healthy, your Empire Zoysia will green up once the conditions improve. Patience and proper care are key.

Myth 4: Grass with a High Drought Tolerance Doesn’t Need Watering

While Empire Zoysia is known for its drought tolerance, it still requires occasional deep watering, especially during prolonged dry spells. Drought-tolerant grasses can survive on less water, but they still benefit from a good soaking to encourage strong root development and keep your lawn looking its best.

Myth 5: You Don’t Need to Worry About Weeds Until They’re Big

Ignoring small weeds can lead to bigger problems down the road. Weeds compete with your turf for water, nutrients, and sunlight, so it’s important to remove them early. Regularly inspect your lawn, and get rid of weeds while they’re still small to avoid them overtaking your Empire Zoysia.

Myth 6: You Can’t Have a Lawn in Dry Areas

Living in a dry area doesn’t mean you can’t have a beautiful lawn. Empire Zoysia is one of the most drought-tolerant turf varieties available, making it perfect for regions with less rainfall. By using efficient watering techniques and giving your lawn some extra care, you can still enjoy a lush, green lawn, even in dry conditions.
